Weekend Picks: A Rodeo, A Matanza and a Piano Solo

New Mexico Stampede PRCA Pro Rodeo

The Santa Ana Star Center hosts the New Mexico Stampede PRCA Pro Rodeo with 350 riders and a prize purse over $60,000 tonight and tomorrow night, January 28 and 29, at 7:30 PM.  Tickets $14-$30. (Note: the link to NM Stampede opens to a loud advertisement which plays automatically.)

George Winston Plays at the National Hispanic Cultural Center

Fall under the spell of George Winston’s unique sound as he tickles the ivories for fans at the beautiful National Hispanic Cultural Center this Sunday, January 30, at 7:30 PM. Tickets are $30 – $45

11th Annual Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Albuquerque Matanza

It’s just a wee bit of a drive south of  Albuquerque to attend what is being billed as the World’s Largest Matanza at the Sheriff’s Posse Grounds in Belen.  40 pigs, 25 competitive cooking teams, and an expected crowd of more than 10,000 people all add up to one big celebration.  The $10 admission price includes the all-you-can-eat feast. (6:30 AM – 3 PM; kids 10 and under, free)
