It’s a Holiday Weekend: So Much to do in ABQ

Whether you’re into Motocross, comic conventions, parades, the symphony, or basketball, there is something for everyone over this long weekend here in Albuquerque.  And because of the Martin Luther King holiday on Monday, buses will be operating on a Saturday schedule, most government buildings and services will be closed (libraries, community centers and museums) while the BioPark will be open and trash pick up will proceed as scheduled.

Albuquerque Comic Con

This Saturday and Sunday 10 AM – 6 PM, attend the first full-blown comic convention in Albuquerque in over a decade at the Hilton of Albuquerque.  Tickets ($5-$25 with kids under six admitted free) can be purchased online until midnight tonight. The convention is listed in the mobile app conventionist if you want a mobile guide for the event.

Martin Luther King Holiday Parade and Events

The annual Martin Luther King Holiday Parade will begin at 11 AM on Saturday at MLK and University Boulevards at 11 AM followed by a commemorative ceremony at the Harry E. Kinney Civic Plaza.  The day will also bring a commemorative breakfast, a birthday celebration program and a jubilee.

Basketball Scene

Both the University of New Mexico College Men’s Basketball and the New Mexico Thunderbirds play in town this weekend.  Catch the Thunderbirds as they take on Tulsa tonight and tomorrow night in the Santa Ana Star Center in Rio Rancho.  ($8-$95) UNM will host San Diego in the newly renovated Pit on Saturday at 4 PM. ($10-$35) (Note – the UNM links open to automatic video and audio … just in case you decide to check them out while your boss in nearby.)
